And his belief, despite a lack of commercial success, that he was in fact a great artist. The letters document Vincent’s turbulent emotional life, his wide and deep reading, his artistic development. He wrote an estimated 2000 letters in his short life, more than 600 to his brother Theo, an art dealer in Paris, who often supported Vincent financially, and carefully preserved their correspondence. But to know the paintings and drawings is to know only one aspect of his genius. His paintings appear not only on museum walls, but on tee shirts, coffee mugs and posters around the world. No artist is held in higher esteem than Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh. presents Dear Theo: The Letters of Vincent Van Gogh at Arts + Literature Laboratory on Thursday, April 13 at 7:30pm.

The Decatur Daily "What Miles learns about faith, about herself and about the gift of giving and receiving graciously are wonderful gifts for the reader." This book is a gem will remain with you forever." Why would any thinking person become a Christian? is one of the questions she addresses, and her answer is also compelling reading." Miles comments, often with great insight, on the ugliness that many people associate with a particular brand of Christianity. Anne Lamott "Engaging, funny, and highly entertaining. Here, in this achingly beautiful, passionate book, is the living communion of Christ. Take This Bread is rich with real-life Dickensian characters-church ladies, millionaires, schizophrenics, bishops, and thieves-all blown into Miles's life by the relentless force of her newfound calling. Before long, she turned the bread she ate at communion into tons of groceries, piled on the church's altar to be given away. A lesbian left-wing journalist who'd covered revolutions around the world, Miles didn't discover a religion that was about angels or good behavior or piety her faith centered on real hunger, real food, and real bodies. Such was the power of the engine over the opposition – which either didn’t have the resource or the commitment to capitalise on the 1994 rule change – Unser Jr won the race, while the other two cars failed to finish. Jade Gurss, the author of the book ‘Beast’, and the head of Penske’s Indy 500 engine programme Kevin Walter join the podcast to recall how the project came about and hit the track in just eight months with upwards of 1000bhp. Whether it’s a scuba-diving trip that triggered a chain of events leading to an engineering breakthrough, or parts being transported by Concorde – via the ammunition bay of a World War 2 fighter jet – the story of the Ilmor-built, Mercedes-badged pushrod engine exploiting rule changes for that year is legendary. May 27 : Beast: The Indy 500 engine that shocked the world, with Al Unser Jr Miss Nelson is a beautiful person with a similar resemblance to Glinda the Good Witch and Miss Swamp is the total opposite looking like a wicked witch. The kids are misbehaving in Miss Nelson's class and they disrespect her so one day she goes missing and her replacement is Miss Viola Swamp. Having all these drama fits into this book and takes me back to memory lane. I remember in my mind going what is this chaos and how do these kids behave with their parents because I guarantee you that my mother would have smacked me if I did half of what these kids were doing in public. They would talk back to the teacher, make loud unnecessary noises, bully other kids, and speak foul language. The moment I transfer to public school, the students were horrible. I was in private school before the 2nd grade and I remember everyone in my grade knew how to behave without any demonstration. I believe teachers should read this book because I will be the first to admit that students can be absolutely cruel to their teacher regardless what age. I guarantee you if I was a little kid I wouldn't make the connection till the end but since I am an adult it is quite clear where Miss Nelson went missing. Anyway I am on this mission to discover classic children's books to read and fall in love with and for this one I found it adorable and smart. I remember when I was a little kid I had a teacher who should us this book and I do not remember what grade this was or if she read us the story or not. |
